Lonely

Black Friday has just past us, Friday the 13th of July. Some may see that as a spooky superstitious day, I saw it as a day to curl into a ball and feel sorry for myself.

I was happy that it means there is now a 365 day count down until Kat's wedding.

I was sad because it was my ex's birthday and that means it's 5 years since I met him. It still hurts, it's allowed to and wouldn't have meant much if it didn't.

Yesterday I had to stop feeling sorry for myself and lonely and such and thankfully a txt from Lauren telling me she wanted to see pictures from my adventures motivated me enough to get dressed and push myself out the door.

It was just after lunch and I jumped in the car, got some fuel and picked a direction to drive. I chose north, travelling up the Tamar River towards the sea. I made my way 40kms to George town which is said (by signage there) to be the "Oldest Town in Australia" in the miserable overcast and rainy weather of yesterday it didn't look to great but hey, maybe in summer?

I drove around looking for anything to take a photo of, I drove up to Low Head which is the East side entry point to the Tamar.

There were beautiful old Light houses and quaint little sea side houses, very picturesque and beautiful but the rain stopped me getting out of the car most of the time.

At Low Head there was a Fairy Penguin colony on the beach where they hold tours and talks, after reading some information boards I found that the Fairy or Little Penguins as they are also called, come ashore in the 2 hours after dark so I was a little early. I still wandered down the little path which went through a paddock of sheep (and a lot of sheep crap) to the viewing platform and the view was spectacular with the light house to top it off.

I moved on again, this time I followed a sign that simply said "North East". I found myself in Bridport which was a little town on the beach. I went for a walk as it had stopped raining along the shore line to snap some photos of the closest I'll be to the mainland for a few months.

I drove around a bit and found myself in one of many dead ends I encountered, this one was particularly amusing as apparently I found the secret location of Hogwarts!

By then it was about 4:30 so I headed off to find my way back to Launceston. I drove through the hills, a different way I had come. It was getting dark so the fog was rolling in between the hills and was so stunning. I kept my eyes peeled and alert as while I was doing my trip I was seeing a lot of road kill all day from echidnas to wallabies to unrecognisable animals so I was not to fond of the idea of driving at dusk when they are all on the move. I only briefly saw a wallaby so arrived home safe around 5:30. I checked my odometer and apparently I drove 200kms yesterday so I think that was a good effort. Next time I'll just pick a different direction to travel.

When I got home I met Maxim, a first year Architecture student already living in my unit but returning from break, we also briefly met a new girl Olivia who only said her name so I think is very shy or her English isn't to great yet? Leigh has been here since I got here 11 days ago and he is finally comfortable with me which is nice, he is studying education. Daniel a 3rd year and Alana and Sharna are the other 3 who should probably return back from break today, ready for classes tomorrow.

Well now its lunch, the blue is poking through the clouds so I think I might go by myself a new hair dryer as my GHD Travel dryer died yesterday after only 3 uses! Was not happy going to bed with half a wet head so I stayed up shaking it around while watching Bones from my hard drive until the wee hours. Must get a Dressing gown too!
