Slack

Slack slack slack... slack slack!

I intentionally put blogger dashboard as my home page so I would actually blog. Apparently that didn't work too well as I would always go on facebook or emails and say to myself that I'll come back to my blog.

It's not like I haven't had anything to talk about because I have, I don't plan posts, I don't have a goal so I just post when I want to about whatever I want.

Biggest news lately is I am very proud of myself because mid semester break is just finishing and for the first half of semester I had 3 assessments.

The first was for Design Workshop and was about Illusion. I got a Credit as my first ever Uni mark and I was very happy with myself for more than just passing.

The second was for Design Communication and was about learning to use Google/Trimble Sketch up (a free 3D Computer Aided Drafting Program) and Photoshop for which I just found out I got a High Distinction!

I took photos of this shelving unit, distorted and stitched them onto a 3D model then eventually placed the image into a virtual room and added shadows.

And last but not least, as it may be my current favourite unit, Furniture Technology for which I received my second High Distinction!

This is the first part of the assessment, the Dovetail carcass. Dovetails at the back, Mortise and Tenon at the front. The second part of the assessment is to construct a draw to fit underneath the top shelf.

I really do enjoy the hand cut joinery and machining that I am learning. The timber that I used for this was a rough sawn board of Tasmanian Oak which I dressed (shaved it with the machines until smooth) then cut to size.

Now I have to work on my second part of Design workshop, I started looking at optical illusions and have now moved onto a tension illusion. Now this is my kind of modelling.

Using timber veneer, laminated together wrapped around a form. Can you spot the wooden spoon?
